Take Action to Bolster Economic Recovery Package

Your help is needed to ensure that the package is complete. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill introduced by Rep. David Obey (D-WI) includes funding for the Emergency Shelter Grant program to help families avoid eviction or obtain new housing but it doesn’t include funding for additional housing choice vouchers  or for the National Housing Trust Fund. To ensure that the economic recovery package contains all three housing provisions — which will provide affordable housing for poor people, help stabilize families and stimulate job growth — contact your Congressional Representative in Washington and urge him/her to sign on to a “Dear Colleague Letter” that Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) is asking all members of the house to sign for delivery to Rep. Obey. Here’s all you have to do: (1) Call 1-800-210-5351 which will connect you to the congressional switchboard; (2) Ask to be connected to the housing staffer in your representative’s office; (3) Ask the staffer to be sure that his boss signs Rep.
