Catholic Charities, which for years has been helping families who can’t get help from the state, has documentary proof of this. All it takes, CC says, is one visit to the emergency room, a minor health care crisis, or a large dental bill to throw a family off budget, cause them to miss a month’s rent or skip car repairs, leaving them facing eviction or without transportation to work or school. The governor’s serious budget cuts into healthcare will do serious damage to low income families — like Mabel, pictured here, who received prenatal care from CC and gave birth to a healthy baby girl, but who without that help would have been in serious difficulty. Call your representative and/or senator in St. Paul (see Resources) and urge them to do what they can to save some of the healthcare cuts the governor has proposed.
