GAMC is General Assistance Medical Care, a state-funded program which pays for certain health care services for low-income Minnesotans who are not eligible for other health care programs – generally individuals on General Assistance who have an income lower than 75% of the Federal Poverty Guideline (about $8,122 per year). In fiscal year 2007 about 34,000 per month were served by GAMC — and if it’s cut from the budget they will now be left without critical health care such as in-patient hospital care, asthma-related breathing supplies, and prosthetic devices.
Recommended Action: Contact the Speaker of the House, the Senate Majority Leader, the Governor, and your state representative and senator and ask them to protect low-income Minnesotans from cuts to GAMC.
