Governor Pawlenty Slashes GMAC — Call Him!

Although the Governor has signed the Health & Human Services bill, which is good, he used his line item veto to stike the entire $381 million appropriation for General Assistance Medical Care. GMAC provides basic health coverage for the poorest single adults in the state. Without GMAC 30,000 men and women, most of whom make about $200 per month, will lose all health coverage. Without it some people will die and others will seek help in emergency rooms (and tax payers will foot the bill!).

Recommended Action:

• Call Governor Pawlenty at 651-296-3391 and let him know you want GMAC reinstated.
• Call your representative (see Resources page) and tell him/her that you’d rather pay higher taxes than have GMAC funding cut.
